Anita Light

Principal and Vice President

Association Leadership, Systems Integration and Interoperability, Organizational Assessment

Anita B. Light is the Principal and Vice President of the Light Leadership Group. Prior to this, Anita was the Deputy Executive Director of the American Public Human Services Association (APHSA) – leading the policy, practice, and program teams focused on securing effective public human services policy and examining and promoting innovations occurring in state and local agencies across the nation. Anita also led the National Collaborative for Integration of Health and Human Service, an initiative that focused on system integration through the use of a 21st Century Health and Human Services Business Model. 

Since retiring with over 18 years in leadership positions in the non-profit sector, Anita is serving as the senior advisor to the National Electronic Interstate Compact Enterprise (NEICE), a system enabling the transmission of data from one state to another using NIEM (National Information Exchange Model) standards. 

Before working in the non-profit world, Anita worked in public child welfare for 17 years in the areas of foster care, adoptions, juvenile delinquency, and family therapy. She also has more than 12 years' experience in human resources as a manager, trainer, and consultant focusing on leadership development, strategic planning, executive coaching, and organizational development. She has also many years volunteering in the community, most recently being appointed by Fairfax City Council to the Human Services Committee and Fairfax County board of Supervisors to the Long-Term Care Coordinating Committee, and she serves in a leadership role in AAUW Fairfax City Branch. 

Anita has a Bachelor's degree in Sociology/Social Work from Longwood College and a Master's degree in education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She received her Certified Association Executive (CAE) certification in May 2010 and she was also certified as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR).
