David Nuckols

David Nuckols has over 33 years in the emergency services field, most recently serving as the Chief Operating Officer of the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) where he oversaw finance, IT, membership, marketing, and government relations activities. David served as Assistant Director overseeing online and instructor led training efforts in both the United States and internationally and then was the Acting Finance Director before he assumed the role of COO.
David began his career as a firefighter in Virginia and served in many capacities including emergency response, departmental training, managing department resources, and as administrative chief overseeing the department’s business operation and budget. He was a peer leader supporting firefighter issues through efforts as an International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) local president and Virginia Professional Fire Fighters vice president working closely with local, state, and federal officials with a focus on firefighter safety and labor-management relations.
With more than 18 years’ experience facilitating difficult and emotionally charged situations, David was honored to provide support for IAFF peer counselors in New York following the 9-11 attacks. He has facilitated multiple meetings designed to address organizational needs, develop action plans, and then support the implementation. He has also provided emergency response team services and training to corporate organizations as well as track safety team services for NASCAR events. David remains committed to continuous improvement to prepare community leaders for today’s ever-changing environment.
David has held numerous leadership positions with the Virginia Professional Firefighters Association and holds a degree in Business Administration from Columbia Southern University.
